Airplane II: The Sequel (1982)Written and Directed by Ken Finkleman
Starring Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Peter Graves, Chad Everett, William Shatner, Lloyd Bridges, Sonny Bono, Rip Torn, John Dehner Sequel to 1980's Airplane! |
Airplane II does not live up to the first one at all, but it's worth more than a few laughs. The return of Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, Lloyd Bridges, and Peter Graves really made it feel like the first one, but without the Zuckers, it wasn't anything special.
That being said, the slapstick element is still very much alive but the jokes were much too obvious. I loved the subtlety of the first one. What really won me over with this film was William Shatner, who gave arguably the best performance of his career. He was hilarious and his deadpan was one of the best parts of the movie. If you're a fan of the first Airplane, this sequel might be a worth a few good yuks. However, to the casual viewer, it's not really worth it. |
